Remedy

Dealers will update the A-IVI software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 20, 2023. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA’s number for this recall is SR-23-001.

Potential Number of Units Affected 3,735

Summary

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2022 Outlander vehicles. The front and second-row passenger seat belt automatic locking retractors may deactivate early, which can prevent the child restraint system from securing properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.” An unsecured child restraint system can increase the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect, and replace as necessary, the right front seat belt assembly, and the right and left second-row seat belt assemblies, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA’s number for this recall is SR-21-007.

Potential Number of Units Affected 15,347

Summary

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. The front lower control arms may detach due to the front cross member corroding from salt water exposure, such as from road salt use. A detached front control arm can result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Depending on the level of existing corrosion, either a sealing/anti-corrosion agent will be applied, or the front cross member will be replaced with a new one, free of charge. Summary

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2016 Outlander and Outlander Sport vehicles. The rust prevention coating on the rear brake operating shafts could have been peeled off during the assembly process. As a result, water entering the rear brake caliper boot may cause the parking brake operating shafts to corrode and possibly bind. If the parking brake operating shafts bind, the parking brakes may not engage or disengage fully. If the parking brakes do not engage properly, the vehicle could roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear brake caliper assemblies, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 25, 2021. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA’s number for this recall is SR-20-005.

Mitsubishi Recall History

Check your Mitsubishi’s Vehicle Identification Number or VIN at KBB’s Car Recalls above.

Mitsubishi has had a number of its cars and SUV recalled in recent years, including issues with airbags, corrosion of parts, and sunroof assembly. Among the models affected are the Mirage, Outlander, Outlander Sport, and Lancer.

In 2018, Mitsubishi recalled just over 83,500 2014-2018 Mirage compact cars due to an internal acceleration sensor that, under certain conditions, may disable the airbags. NHTSA reports that as of April 2018, just under half or 42.2 percent of recalled cars have been fixed.

A broader recall was issued for 141,053 cars and SUVs including the 2008-2012 Outlander, Outlander Sport, Lancer Sportback, and Lancer. A defective belt tensioner may fail, causing the belt to detach. If this occurs, there is a risk the battery will discharge resulting in a stall. This 2018 recall supersedes an early recall for the same problem issued in 2014.

Mitsubishi also recalled 170,354 2013-2016 Outlander and Outlander Sport SUVs for an issue related to water penetrating the rear brake calipers. Should this occur, the parking brake actuator shafts may corrode and bind, interfering with the parking brake’s ability to fully engage and disengage. As of April 2018, the completion rate was less than 1 percent.

Just over 56,640 2007-2010 Lancer, Lancer Evolution, Lancer Sportback, and Outlander vehicles were recently recalled for an issue where the sunroof glass on cars so equipped may detach from the sunroof assembly. As this recall was just recently announced, only 4 percent of repairs have been completed.

In regards to the Takata airbag recall, Mitsubishi has issued notices for the 2012 and 2014 i-MiEV, 2004-2007 Lancer, Lancer Sportback, and Lancer Evolution as well as the 2006-2009 Raider truck. Multiple First-Class mailings went out throughout 2016 and 2017 in an effort to reach owners, however, as of January 2018, only 4 percent of the 2004-2006 Lancer passenger-side airbags have been fixed.
