MINI Recall History

The iconic Mini brand of vehicles has had its share of recalls for safety and manufacturing issues including some related to Takata passenger-side airbags. Among recent recalls, are those that include side impact worthiness, faulty turn signals and brake lights. Mini is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BMW.

In October 2015, Mini recalled 6,073 model year 2014-2016 Mini Cooper S and Mini Cooper two-door, 2015-2016 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works, and Mini Cooper S and Mini Cooper four-door vehicles for a defect that might cause the Takata-manufactured passenger frontal air bag to not deploy properly. It could possibly increase the risk of injury to the front seat passenger. As of April 2017, there was a 93-percent completion rate.

In July 2015, Mini recalled 30,456 model year 2014-2015 MINI Coopers, Mini Cooper S Hardtop and 2015 Mini John Cooper Works Hardtop 2-door vehicles that do not meet side impact crash worthiness for the rear seats. If the side impact performance requirements are not met, rear seat passengers may be at a higher risk of injury during a crash. There is an 86-percent completion rate.

In July 2016, Mini recalled 7,810 model year 2016-2017 Mini Clubman for faulty front seat side air bags that may not deploy properly. If a side curtain air bag does not inflate as intended in the event of a crash, there is an increased risk of injury to the front seat passengers. As of January, there was a completion rate of 97.5-percent.

In March 2017, Mini recalled 16,883 model year 2016-2017 Mini Cooper Clubman, Cooper S Clubman, and JCW Clubman vehicles for a faulty turn signal that may cause the inner, bumper-mounted brake light to go out. If it does not illuminate, other drivers may be confused, increasing the risk of a crash. On April 2018, there was a completion rate of 93-percent.
