Mini Maintenance Schedules Q&A

MINI Maintenance Pricing & Schedules

Although produced by BMW since 2000, Minis have been around since 1959, and in 1969 became a stand-alone brand. Iconic in their tiny size and stature, Mini has provided family transportation around the world, while performance versions were known as Mini Cooper because of the tuning expertise of racing legend John Cooper.

While there is little shared between the classic Mini, we will be concentrating on the BMW-produced Mini vehicles. To achieve miles of driving service and pleasure, Mini has a detailed service schedule that will help owners to achieve those goals. They have even taken care of most of the heavy lifting by providing complimentary maintenance service for the first 3 years/36,000 miles of the brand’s 4-year/50,000-mile comprehensive warranty. Roadside assistance is complimentary for 4 years with no mileage limit.

Mini Maintenance Guidelines

Condition Based Service (CBS) System

Maintenance guidelines are managed by Mini’s Condition Based Service (CBS) system, that through the use of sensors and algorithms considers driving conditions encountered since the last service. Throughout the menu of scheduled services, technicians will perform multi-point inspections on fluid levels and other vehicle needs. By following the guidelines listed in the Mini Owner’s Manual, owners can stay aware of all aspects of their maintenance schedules.

10,000 Miles or 12 Months

The Mini’s CBS system and electronic oil measurement sensors to monitor the engine load on the current oil fill, based on driving style, time and distances issuing alerts on the vehicle’s Control Display. If outside its specified operating range, a Check Control message is displayed. Synthetic Oil and oil filter changes typically occur every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first.

20,000-, 40,000- and 60,000-Mile Intervals

Fuel filters are next, being changed every 20,000 to 40,000 miles. Coolants are typically changed at the 40,000-mile mark. Mini technicians will change the engine air filter at 40,000 miles, and spark plugs every 60,000 miles. They will also get into the habit of changing the vehicle’s brake fluid every two years or 20,000 miles.

Extended Warranty and Maintenance

Mini Maintenance+

Mini Maintenance is an added plus for owners in that it offers 3 years or 36,000 miles of factory recommended service including engine oil, engine filter, brake fluid and spark plug changes. Buyers may also purchase Mini Maintenance+ which is a prepaid maintenance program that extends the maintenance service from 3 years/36,000 miles all the way out to the Mini Maintenance+4 program which extends service to 7 years/125,000 miles. There is an added incentive of receiving up to 30-percent discount on schedule maintenance costs by paying in advance. Prices vary but can go a long way towards reducing maintenance costs over the vehicle ownership period.

Mini Extended Motorer Protection

Mini Extended Motorer Protection allows owners to extend the length of their original 4-year/50,000-mile warranty by purchasing additional coverage that extends to seven years/100,000 miles. This extended plan applies to new, used or certified pre-owned Mini vehicles. Both the Mini Maintenance+ and the Mini Extended Motorer Protection plans can be purchased at the first point of sale and combined into your monthly payments.
