2021 720s Maintenance Schedules Q&A

McLaren Maintenance Pricing & Schedules

McLaren Automotive, based in Woking, Surrey, UK, is the descendent of a company founded by racing legend Bruce McLaren in 1963. McLaren passed away following a car accident in 1970 while testing a race car. If he were alive today, he would not recognize the conglomerate his company has become.

Following the mergers, acquisitions, and other business dealings, McLaren automotive was relaunched as an auto manufacturer in 2010. At that time, they spun off the world famous McLaren Formula 1 racing team, which continues to operate from their same facilities. In addition to their automotive technologies group, the firm is also involved in aerospace, biomedical, communications and other non-automotive related industries.

McLaren builds some of the most desirable automobiles in existence today. In order to be kept that way, they need to be properly serviced. As such, McLaren has set up a servicing schedule that should help you keep your McLaren supercar operating to its full potential. It’s not like you will be able to run down to your local quick lube, as the service schedules are much more extensive. All services are the responsibility of the owner. Read on for more.

McLaren Maintenance Guidelines

10,000-Mile/12-Month Intervals

The guidelines for McLaren center around a maintenance schedule that breaks up into 10,000-mile/12-month intervals. During this first 10,000-mile increment, your McLaren service mechanic will replace the original synthetic engine oil and oil filter with a new fill of synthetic that will be good for the next 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first. Following this, they will inspect the air filters, radiators, steering components, front and rear suspension joints, the brake system, including brake pads, all electrical connections, fluid levels, tires and rims, the tire repair kit and before closing things up, perform a multi-point inspection.

20,000 Miles or 2 Years

The service will repeat itself at 20,000 miles or two years, whichever comes first. Your service technician will also perform all the inspections as seen at the 10,000-mile mark.

30,000 Miles or 3 Years

At three years or 30,000 miles, it will be time for a third synthetic oil and oil filter change. That will be followed by a refresh of the gearbox fluid. Following these replacements, your McLaren service technician will also inspect all other items from the two previous services, adding inspections to the oil vapor recirculation system, oxygen sensors, EVAP system, injection and ignition systems, along with the resetting of the service messages. Finally, they will perform a road test.

Extended Warranty and Maintenance Plans

McLaren owners are covered by a 3-year/unlimited mileage vehicle bumper-to-bumper warranty which includes everything but wear items. McLaren cars also include a 10-year/unlimited mileage anti-perforation (rust) warranty. Roadside assistance is in place for 3 years/unlimited mileage. Owners can extend the warranty out in 12- or 24-month increments to a full 12 years from the initial date of service, provided that the cars pass a rigorous inspection with up-to-date maintenance records. The extended warranty offer is good on Certified Pre-Owned McLaren Sport and Super Series vehicles as well, provided they are not more than 10 years old and have less than 75,000 miles on the odometer.

No Extended Service Contract Offered

It is the McLaren owner’s responsibility to properly maintain their vehicle. Additionally, McLaren does not offer an Extended Service Contract.
