Lexus Maintenance Schedules Q&A

Lexus Maintenance Pricing & Schedules

Your new Lexus is one of the most popular of the Pacific Rim-based luxury brands and continually gives the Germans and British a serious run for their money. Lexus owners are made to feel like part of the family or members of an exclusive club, that meets every 10,000 miles or so. In the service drive. At your local Lexus dealership.

But there is a reason for this: Lexus owners like their cars and SUVs nice and tidy. And who better to keep it that way than factory-trained Lexus mechanics who know what your vehicle needs and when it needs it. Read on for a list of the major events that occur when you bring your Lexus in for its incremental service.

Lexus Maintenance Guidelines

In a prior age, tune ups and service intervals were scheduled according to the life of the oil in your vehicle’s crankcase. With the mainstreaming of synthetic oils, these prior intervals have lengthened out to the point that many manufacturers are recommending services at 10,000-mile intervals. Sure, you could use conventional oil but with all the benefits of modern synthetics, why would you?

10,000 miles:

Lexus suggests that at the 10K mark, it’s the right time to replace the engine oil and oil filter. A tire rotation is also on tap, and if necessary, a wheel alignment, all in an effort to minimize wear at all four corners on you new Lexus. The brand also recommends inspecting the brake pads, and wiper blades for accelerated wear, and replace if necessary. Finally, replace the in-cabin air filter which traps dust, pollen and other debris before it has a chance to enter the cabin.

15,000 miles:

During the 5,000-mile intervals falling in-between all the other 10,000-mile multiples, Lexus recommends the inspection and refilling of all fluids, a visual inspection of axle shaft boots, the rack and pinion steering, wiper blades, ball joints and dust covers, brake lines and hoses, rear differential oil, coolant, replace key fob batteries and finally another go-round of rotating the tires.

20,000 miles:

Replace engine oil and oil filter, replace cabin air filter, tire rotation, inspect brake pads, calipers and rotors. Inspect and top off all fluid levels

30,000 miles:

The 30,000-mile service is more extensive and begins once again with an oil and filter change, along with tire rotation. Replace engine air filter and in-cabin air filter. Replace brake fluid. Inspect: brake pads, calipers and rotors, exhaust system, wiper blades, automatic transmission for leakage, suspension ball joints and other components, drive shaft boots, and steering linkage and boots. Torque nuts and bolts of driveshaft. Adjust, fill, or replace other fluids as needed.

40,000 miles:

Replace motor oil with fresh synthetic oil and a new oil filter. Rotate tires, replace in-cabin air filter, inspect windshield wiper blades, and visually inspect brake pads, calipers and rotors. At this point, we might add that it’s time to begin keeping an eye on tire wear.

Extended Service/Extended Warranty

Lexus Luxury Care Prepaid Maintenance

Lexus covers the first two regularly scheduled maintenance visits for free. For those who plan to keep their Lexus automobiles for a longer period of time, there is the Lexus Luxury Care prepaid maintenance. The plans, which vary in price, range from two years or 20,000 miles all the way up to five years or 90,000 miles, and allow owners to prepay for routine services at today’s prices. Those services include oil and filter changes, tire rotations, multipoint inspections and any additional services in the scheduled maintenance log of your Lexus vehicle. The owner, after making an appointment, arrives at the dealership and presents a prepaid maintenance card showing that their vehicle is covered by the Lexus luxury care plan. At that point head to the service department waiting room, grab a cup of coffee and relax.

This is by no means a comprehensive service schedule. We have just touched on many important steps in the process. How and where you drive may also affect the need to seek service sooner. For example, if you drive in dusty, desert-like climates, you may want to change your oil and engine air filters sooner than described in the service schedule. And as always, your mileage may vary.
