Fiat Maintenance Schedules Q&A

FIAT Maintenance Pricing & Schedules

Fiat roots date back to 1899, and the brand has had an off and on relationship with the United States. Thankfully, as part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles since 2014, the relationship is on again. This modern-day lineup of automobiles features Italian style and charm that harkens back to the original Fiat Cinquecento (Fiat 500) from 1957. La Dolce Vita, indeed!

Like all vehicles on the road today, they still need to be properly maintained in order to get the most out of them. To that end, Fiat has compiled a service schedule, that if followed, will provide many years of driving enjoyment.

Fiat Maintenance Guidelines

The guidelines for your Fiat vehicle center around an automatic oil change indicator system that alerts you via dashboard light when it’s time to change your oil. It may be as soon as 3,500 miles or as far away as 10,000 miles, but the system adapts according to your driving habits. If you have a need (or desire?) to drive many short distances, or linger in stop and go traffic, or along mountainous routes, or sandy and hot regions, sensors on your Fiat will take that into consideration and using algorithms, determine how much life is still left in your crankcase. Regardless of what the indicator light says, a synthetic oil and oil filter change should occur no later than 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first.

Periodic Checks Every 600 Miles or Before Long Trips

Fiat also suggests that periodic checks be performed every 600 miles or before long trips, to top off all fluids (including wiper fluid – there is nothing more annoying than an empty fluid reservoir) tire inflation pressure and the engine oil level.

10,000-Mile Service Intervals

Using mileage-based Intervals, your Fiat owner’s manual will recommend at 10-, 20-, 30- and 40,000-mile scheduled services, that besides an oil change, your Fiat technician should rotate the tires, examine brake pads, rotors, hoses and parking brake system, inspect the accessory drive belts and the battery. At the same time, they should check the engine cooling system, exhaust, and engine air cleaner, if you routinely drive in dusty, dirty off-road conditions.

There is a complete list of items to be covered at various schedules throughout the life of your Fiat, available in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. They include items like spark plugs, which should be changed every 30,000 miles, and the in-cabin air filter, which should be replaced every 20,000.

Extended Warranty and Maintenance Plans

Fiats are covered by a 4-year/50,000-mile basic limited vehicle warranty that provides bumper-to-bumper coverage. Unlike other brands, Fiat does not break coverage down to comprehensive and powertrain warranties. Instead, they cover everything during that time period. That combines with a 3-year, unlimited mileage anti-corrosion limited warranty, and an 8-year/80,000-mile Federal emission warranty.

Mopar Vehicle Protection Programs

Fiat offers owners expanded coverage of their Fiat vehicles through the FCA company’s Mopar Vehicle Protection program. Free maintenance is standard for the first year of ownership, with additional coverage offered for 3-years/30,000-miles or 4-years/40,000-miles. The brand also offers Fiat Maximum Care with coverage of up to 5,000 critical components with term options that can extend to 8-years/125,000 miles or according to FCA “a lifetime.” Deductible levels of $200, $100, $0 are part of the plan, which can be utilized at FCA dealers across the United States. The plan is transferable, but pricing varies.
