Chrysler Recall History

Check your Chrysler’s Vehicle Identification Number or VIN at KBB’s Car Recalls above.

Chrysler vehicles including the popular-selling Pacifica minivan and sedans have been part of recalls the past several years for engine stalling, cruise control issues and confusing gear shifters that can cause vehicle rollaways. Some Chrysler vehicles also have been called back for Takata airbag inflators.

In May 2018, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV recalled 4.8 million vehicles because of a problem that could prevent a driver from being able to cancel cruise control. That recall included 2015-17 Chrysler 200 cars, 2014-18 Chrysler 300 sedans and 2017-18 Pacifica minivans, among others. Customers have been advised not to use cruise control until their vehicles are fixed with a software update. No completion information is available yet for this recall, Fiat Chrysler says.

More than 150,000 2017 Pacifica minivans with 3.6-liter engines were called back in early 2018 for concerns of engine stalling. In these vehicles, the engine control software

may not sync with the crankshaft position sensor. Fiat Chrysler knows of one possible accident related to the problem.

The remedy is a software fix. Fiat Chrysler says the recall completion rate is 69.4 percent as of April 2018, the latest data available. About 25 percent of recalls aren’t fixed, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In 2016, Fiat Chrysler also recalled more than 811,000 vehicles including 2012-14 Chrysler 300 sedans with 8-speed automatic transmissions for a confusing electronic gear selector. Fiat Chrysler is aware of 41 injuries that could be related to the defect.

Some drivers may not know their vehicle isn’t in park and they may leave the car or SUV and could be injured by the moving vehicle. The remedy for that recall is a software update. Fiat Chrysler said 78.3 percent of vehicles have been fixed as of April 2018, the latest data available.

Several Chrysler vehicles also are part of the massive Takata airbag inflator recall, the largest auto recall in U.S. history. Faulty Takata airbag inflators can explode and send shrapnel into the car or SUV, injuring or even killing people. Fiat Chrysler has recalled millions of vehicles over the issue including 2007-09 Chrysler Aspen SUVs, 2005-12 Chrysler 300 sedans and 2007-08 Chrysler Crossfire cars. Fiat Chrysler said 44.7 percent of its recalled Takata inflators have been fixed as of June 2018.
