Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV vehicles. The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, “Light Vehicle Brake Systems.” Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 28, 2024. Owners can contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM’s number for this recall is N242447990.

An inaccessible seat belt that cannot restrain an occupant, increases the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the driver and/or passenger seat belt retractors, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 22, 2024. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM’s number for this recall is N242441390.

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles. The front camera module (FCM) system may falsely detect an obstacle, causing the automatic emergency braking (AEB) to engage unexpectedly. Unexpected automatic emergency braking can cause the vehicle to abruptly stop or slow down, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will update the front camera module (FCM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 8, 2024. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM’s number for this recall is A232424660.

Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 3500, GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 vehicles equipped with power-unlatching tailgates. The tailgate’s electronic gate-release switch may short circuit due to water intrusion, which can result in the tailgate inadvertently unlatching while the vehicle is in park. An unlatched tailgate may open while driving and result in a loss of unsecured cargo, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Owners are advised to check that the tailgate is closed and latched before driving. Dealers will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 18, 2024. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014 Buick Verano and Chevrolet Cruze vehicles. The left and/or right-side roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflators may rupture at the inflator weld joint. This recall is an expansion of Recall 23V-674. An inflator that ruptures may partially inflate the air bag and cause sharp metal fragments to enter or exit the vehicle, increasing the risk of an injury.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the left and/or right-side RRAB modules as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk are expected to be mailed February 5, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 and Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. Remedy

The VCU software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 22, 2023. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM’s number for this recall is A232424320.

Summary

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles. The four rear-seat lower child seat LATCH anchorage bars may have excessive powder coating, which could prevent a child seat from being installed with the anchorage bars. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 225, “Child Restraint Anchorage Systems.” The inability to install a child seat with the LATCH anchorage bars could result in an unsecured child seat, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Remedy

Owners are advised to install child seats using the vehicle’s rear seat belts until the remedy is complete. Dealers will inspect the latch anchorage bars, and remove and replace the finish, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 26, 2023. Chevrolet Recall History

Check your Chevrolet’s Vehicle Identification Number or VIN at KBB’s Car Recalls above.

Several Chevrolet cars, trucks and SUVs have been subject to recalls over the past five years including the high-profile ignition switch and Takata airbag inflator campaigns.

The Chevrolet Cobalt was among the models at the center of General Motors’ 2014 ignition switch recall of 2.19 million U.S. vehicles. The faulty ignition switch in these vehicles can move out of the “run” position, shutting off the engine and also disabling airbags. The recall ultimately was tied to 124 deaths and hundreds of injuries and led the company to make dramatic changes to its safety processes and culture.

The ignition switch recall includes 2005-10 Cobalts, 2006-11 Chevrolet HHRs and more small vehicles from GM makes such as Pontiac and Saturn. GM says the completion rate for its ignition switch recall across all brands and vehicles is 95.6 percent as of June 2018 — near its goal to fix 100 percent of the affected vehicles.

“No matter the recall completion rate, individual vehicles may still have open recalls requiring repairs,” GM said in a statement. “Shoppers should check the Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) for the specific vehicles they are considering on the NHTSA Recall website to determine if they require recall repairs and have any recall repairs done immediately. Dealers will repair recall at no cost to the owner.”

GM also has called back specific Chevrolet and other makes tied to defective Takata airbags inflators. In 2015, it recalled just more than 330,000 2007-08 Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD pickups and other vehicles for defective passenger side airbags.

Takata airbag inflators can explode and send shrapnel into the passenger compartment, injuring or even killing occupants. The Takata recall, the largest auto recall in U.S. history, includes about 37 million vehicles with 50 million defective inflators. Another round of recalls for several million more defective inflators is expected by December 2019. The defect has been tied to more than 20 deaths worldwide, many in the U.S.

GM said its fix completion rate for all of Takata airbags recalled is 58.9 percent as of June 2018. Recalls for the inflators have been phased based on priority areas including high humidity states.

In 2016, GM also preliminarily recalled 1.8 million full-size trucks and SUVs including 2007–11 Chevrolet Avalanche and Silverado 1500 pickups, Chevrolet Suburban and Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs and 2009-11 Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD pickups with passenger-side Takata airbag inflators. Details: www.gmtakataairbag.com.

The automaker believes those vehicles in the preliminary recall are safe and it is trying to prove through petitions to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that those vehicles don’t need to be recalled and inflators don’t need to be replaced.
