Cadillac Recall History

Check your Cadillac’s Vehicle Identification Number or VIN at KBB’s Car Recalls above.

Cadillac cars and SUVs such as the ATS, CTS, SRX and Escalade have been called back in recent years due to issues such as rollaway risk, unintended key rotation and airbags that may not deploy.

General Motors Co.’s luxury brand in 2014 recalled 90,750 2013-14 ATS and 2014 CTS sedans for transmission shift cables that can detach — a possible rollaway issue.

GM says the completion rate for that recall, which included inspecting parts, is 99.3 percent as of June 2018.

In 2014, GM also recalled 554,000-plus 2003-14 CTS sedans and 2004-06 SRX SUVs for unintended key rotation. The issue can cause the ignition switch to move out of the “run” position, shutting off the engine and disabling the airbags. The fix includes installing two key rings and an insert in the key slot or cover on ignition key heads. GM said that recall has a 73.4 percent completion rate as of June 2018.

Some 2015-17 Escalade and Escalade ESVs were called back as part of a 3.64 million vehicle recall by GM in 2016 over faulty airbag software that can prevent airbags from deploying. GM said the fix is a software reflash. The completion rate for that recall, which spans numerous GM makes and models, is 89.9 percent as of June 2018, according to the automaker.

“No matter the recall completion rate, individual vehicles may still have open recalls requiring repairs,” GM said in a statement. “Shoppers should check the Vehicle Information (Identification) Numbers (VIN) for the specific vehicles they are considering on the NHTSA Recall website to determine if they require recall repairs and have any recall repairs done immediately. Dealers will repair recall at no cost to the owner.”

In 2016, GM also conducted a preliminary recall on certain 2007-11 Escalade, Escalade EXT and Escalade ESV SUVs with passenger-side Takata airbag inflators. They were part of a total of 1.8 million GM vehicles that the automaker preliminarily recalled. Details: www.gmtakataairbag.com. The automaker believes those vehicles in the preliminary recall are safe and it is trying to prove through petitions to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that those vehicles don’t need to be recalled and inflators don’t need to be replaced.

The Takata recall, the largest auto recall ever, includes about 37 million vehicles with 50 million defective inflators and more are expected to be added by December 2019. Recalled Takata airbag inflators can explode and send shrapnel into the passenger compartment, injuring or even killing people. So far, the defect has been tied to more than 20 deaths worldwide, including many in the U.S.
