The growing Alfa Romeo brand has had a few recalls for its new Stelvio luxury compact SUV, including for a water leak and a liftgate that can open unexpectedly. In 2018, parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV recalled 12,595 2018 Stelvio SUVs for the liftgate issue that happens at speeds of less than 3 mph. The problem is caused by leaking water into wiring connectors and a liftgate opening switch, causing corrosion. The fix includes installing more water protection. Fiat Chrysler said that recent recall has a 55.8 percent completion rate as of June 2018.

About 25 percent of all automotive recalls aren’t completed, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

FCA’s premium brand also in 2018 called back 12,595 2018 Stelvio vehicles for a water leak into the body control module and connectors. The issue can lead to windshield wipers or exterior lights not working, loss of horn and/or an unintended turn signaling. The recall fix is to install more sealing protection and as of June 2018 the recall completion rate also was 55.8 percent.

Certain 2018 Stelvio sport utilities and 2018 Giulia sedans also were part of a small recall initiated in December 2017 for contaminated brake fluid. The recall covers 216 vehicles that may have been filled with the bad fluid, which could damage the system and impact braking performance. Fiat Chrysler said the recall completion rate for that recall is 56 percent.
